In October I was lucky enough to attend the Global Issues Network (GIN) Conference at the GREEN School in Bali.

I brought about 10 copies of As if the Earth Matters to the GIN conference.  Within minutes all the copies were sold out!

Soon thereafter I established a relationship with a few of the teachers at GREEN School who gave a superb recommendation of the book and my work in environmental education.

Not long after that  I was contacted by the GREEN Camp, an off shoot of GREEN School, and asked to help establish summer camps and environmental education curriculum as a consultant and resident field naturalist.

So here I am… spending 5-weeks in Bali!  Helping establish what I hope will prove to be a ground breaking and exciting program for kids to get immersed in Nature!

Look for updates, travel stories, cultural adventures and tales of cool critters and outdoor experiences while I am here!

My Band BENCHMARX just completed their third annual ROCKIN’ FOR THE ENVIRONMENT event!

This year we adopted Orang Utans.. and together with A LOT of local support in Malaysia raised RM23,242!  That’s over US$7,000 in one week!

Last year we supported tigers and raised RM11,000 + and the year before was sea turtles for RM7,000+

That’s a good deal of money for local conservation groups and NGO’s working in the field in Malaysia!

This is the third year of the BENCHMARX (I sing and play guitar for BENCHMARX) annual environment and conservation concert and awareness carnival.

Rockin’ for the Environment 2009 will benefit the Orang Utan Appeal UK. All funds go towards the Sepilok Orang Utan rehabilitation center in Sabah, Malaysia.

In previous years BENCHMARX has raised RM7000 (US$2000+) for Sea Turtle Conservation and RM11,000+ (US$3000) for tiger conservation.

Kenny will facilitate a workshop at the East Asian Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia March 29-30, 2009.

The field based workshop will focus on basic ecology and environmental education techniques from his book As if the Earth Matters.

Kenny will present a paper at the 14th International Conference on Thinking in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia June 22-26, 2009.

The title of his paper is Teaching as if the Earth Matters and will be based on his book and research in best practices in environmental education at Montana State University for his Master’s degree in Science Education.

The conference will feature speakers such as Howard Gardner (the developer of the theory of multiple intelligences) and Tony Buzan (the creator of mind mapping techniques)
